WordPress migration without losing rankings

Changing hosting, domain, platform or page builder is one of the moments when websites lose the most traffic, almost always because of URLs that stop existing or details nobody checked.

I handle the whole migration with a prior inventory, a backup, a staging site and redirects, so the website changes without Google or your clients noticing.

Hosting, domain, platform and page builder

Let's plan your migration

Tell me what you want to migrate and where to. With your website URL I can review the starting point and give you a fixed price.

I will review your website before replying.

Before moving anything

A migration is planned, not improvised

A well-done migration goes unnoticed: the site loads as fast or faster, forms keep arriving and the pages that already had traffic from Google keep their place.

To get there, the work starts before anything is moved. I make an inventory of URLs, check which pages receive traffic, which integrations there are (forms, email, analytics, payments) and what could break along the way.

Then I set up the site on a staging environment, compare it with the original and only switch the DNS or go live when everything has been checked.

What kind of migration do you need?

Indicative prices and timelines. Every migration gets a fixed quote after reviewing the website.

  1. 01

    Hosting change

Files, database, email if you need it, DNS and SSL certificate, without the site going down. From USD 90 · 1–3 days.

  2. 02

    Domain change

The site moves to the new domain with page-by-page 301 redirects and the change of address reported in Search Console. From USD 120 · 2–4 days.

  3. 03

    From another platform to WordPress

From Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Shopify or HTML: content, design and URLs moved to WordPress. From USD 600 · 2–5 weeks.

  4. 04

    From Elementor to Bricks Builder

A site built with Elementor or another builder rebuilt in Bricks, with the same design and URLs and lighter code. From USD 450 · 1–4 weeks.

  5. 05

    From WordPress to Astro

For websites that do not need a content management system: a faster, more secure static site that keeps its URLs and SEO titles. From USD 900 · 2–6 weeks.

  6. Not sure which one you need?

What the migration includes

Depending on the type of migration, the work includes all these checks or only the ones your website needs.

  1. 01

    URL inventory

A list of every page, post, image and file, with the ones that receive Google traffic marked as priorities.

  2. 02

    Full backup

Before touching anything, a copy of files and database that lets us roll back if something fails.

  3. 03

    Staging site

The migrated site is reviewed at a temporary address before switching the DNS or going live.

  4. 04

    301 redirects

Every URL that changes redirects to its new address, so you keep rankings and external links.

  5. 05

    DNS, SSL and email

Domain setup, HTTPS certificate and, if email depends on the hosting, moving it without interruptions.

  6. 06

    Forms and integrations

I check that forms, analytics, pixels, payments and automated emails still work after the change.

  7. 07

    Search Console and follow-up

Submitting the new sitemap and checking crawl and indexing errors over the following weeks.

Differentiator

Migrating is technical SEO, not just copying files

Any plugin can copy files from one server to another. The hard part is everything else: keeping URLs working, not losing email and making sure Google understands the change.

That is why I treat every migration as a technical SEO project as well as a development job, with checks before and after launch.

  1. 01

    No lost URLs

Pages that already rank keep their address or redirect to the new one with a 301.

  2. 02

    No downtime

The DNS switch happens with the new site already reviewed, at the time of lowest traffic.

  3. 03

    With a way back

The backup and the original site remain available until everything is confirmed to work.

Real case

Shade Design: five languages, from WordPress to Astro

With the agency Xeon Consulting I migrated the website of shadedesign®, a shade sail manufacturer, from WordPress to Astro in five languages. Of 275 old URLs, 79 were kept and the other 196 redirect with a 301 to their best destination, with no chains.

Before launch, the redirects were tested on a real Apache server and the site scored 100 in all four Lighthouse categories on desktop. This very website, rensotwo.com, also moved from WordPress to Astro keeping its main URLs.

Companies and agencies

For businesses changing websites and agency teams

Let's talk about your project
01

For companies

If you are changing hosting, domain or platform, I take care of the whole process and explain each step without jargon.

You know from the start how much it costs and on what day the switch will happen.

02

For agencies

If one of your agency’s clients needs to migrate their website, I can handle the technical side white-label, coordinated with your team.

I work on a staging site so you can review it before the final switch.

Questions about
WordPress migrations

Will I lose my Google rankings when migrating?

The goal is that you will not. URLs are kept whenever possible and, when they change, they redirect to their new address with a 301. Afterwards I check Search Console to catch errors early. Small fluctuations for a few weeks are normal, but not a drop if the migration is done well.

Will my website go down during the migration?

No. I work on a copy at the destination and only switch once it has been reviewed. The DNS change can take a few hours to propagate, and during that time the site keeps responding from the old server.

How much does it cost and how long does it take?

I work at a fixed price. As a reference: hosting change from USD 90 (1–3 days), domain change from USD 120 (2–4 days), from another platform to WordPress from USD 600, from Elementor to Bricks from USD 450 and from WordPress to Astro from USD 900. After reviewing your site I send you the fixed price in writing.

Do you also migrate email?

If your email depends on the hosting, yes: I plan it together with the DNS switch so no messages are lost. If you use Google Workspace or another external service, its DNS records just need to be kept.

Why move from Elementor to Bricks Builder?

Bricks produces lighter code and works with classes and global styles, which usually improves speed and makes it easier to keep the design consistent. It makes sense if the site is slow or hard to maintain; if Elementor works well for you, there is no need to switch.

When does it make sense to move from WordPress to Astro?

When the website changes little, does not need a dashboard for daily editing and speed and security are priorities, such as a business or portfolio site. If you publish often or run a store, WordPress is still the better option.
