Redesign and migration of Shade Design
Redesign and migration of the website of shadedesign®, a company in Palamós (Costa Brava, Spain) that designs, handcrafts and installs custom shade sails. Through the agency Xeon Consulting, I moved their five-language WordPress site to Astro with a new design, keeping the URLs that already had traffic and adding 301s for all the others.

The starting point
Five languages, 275 URLs and a dated design
The website was built with WordPress, Divi, WPML and Yoast, in five languages (English, Spanish, Catalan, French and Dutch), with around 90 articles and 182 URLs in the sitemap. The design looked dated and many pages added nothing: 20-word project pages, duplicate articles competing with each other and a page copied from another one.
The brief started as a new landing page. After reviewing the sitemap and the Search Console audit it was clear that replacing the site with a landing page would lose organic traffic and backlinks. The whole website had to be migrated without breaking anything.
The proposal
Migrating with data, not blindly
I started from the data: the Search Console audit decided which URLs were kept, which were merged and which new pages were needed. Spain brought 59% of the clicks and people searched for «toldo vela», not «velas de sombra», so Spanish got more new pages and that term became the main one.
The new design keeps the brand colors (navy, yellow and blue) with the Barlow typeface, and puts first what helps people decide: photos of real projects, Google reviews, the UV protection of each fabric and a direct path to a quote.
Every company fact on the website is verified against its source: no invented figures, warranties or timelines.

Estimate your budget- 01
Audit and inventory
I reviewed Search Console and the 275 old URLs to decide which to keep, which to merge and which to redirect.
- 02
Content import
I imported the content from the WordPress API: 50 articles with their original URL and the copy in each language.
- 03
Design and development in Astro
I built the site in Astro with a single source of routes, so pages, sitemap and hreflang never fall out of sync.
- 04
New landing pages
Pages for what people search for and the site did not cover: custom sails, wind, installation, fabrics, terraces, hospitality and schools.
- 05
Redirects and validation
196 single-hop 301 redirects, tested on a real Apache server, and a custom validation on every build.
- 06
Launch
Launch on the client’s hosting behind Cloudflare, with a copy of the WordPress site to roll back and the new sitemap in Search Console.
What the project included
Together with the agency, I took care of the redesign, the migration and the technical side.
- 01
Migration in five languages
100 pages in English, Spanish, Catalan, French and Dutch, with reciprocal hreflang and a language switcher.
- 02
URLs and redirects
Of 275 old URLs, 79 are kept and 196 redirect with a 301 to their best destination, with no chains.
- 03
Cleaner sitemap
From 182 URLs to 87 indexable ones: empty, duplicate or low-value pages removed.
- 04
Fabric selector
A scene drawn in SVG shows the shade cast by each of the 12 fabrics according to its real percentage.
- 05
Area calculator
It works out the m² between anchor points and passes the measurements to the quote form.
- 06
Form and cookies
A form with Resend, Cloudflare Turnstile and spam filters; a cookie banner and Google Analytics ready to go.
- 07
Performance
Inlined CSS, AVIF images with WebP fallback and no animations delaying the first screen.

Result
A new website that keeps what worked
Since October 23, 2026, shadedesign® has a new five-language website that keeps the URLs with traffic and redirects all the others. Before launch, Lighthouse scored 100 in all four categories on desktop and between 99 and 100 for performance on mobile.
Now it is time to measure: over the coming weeks I am tracking errors and traffic in Search Console to make sure the migration has not lost rankings.
